Mangalore, May 29: Tight security has been arranged in the Ullal constituency for the up-coming by-election which would be held on Saturday June 2, said B Dayanand, SP of Dakshina Kannada.

He was speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday May 29 evening.

He said that bout 1100 security personnel have been deployed in the constituency. Thalapady (Kerala boarder) check-post would be manned by central paramilitary personnel with the support of local police. This arrangement has been made to avoid proxy voting, he added.

A total of 13 check-posts have been opened around the Ullal constituency. All the necessary measures have been taken to keep watch on the movement of spurious liquor in the district, he informed.

At the same time, district commissioner M Maheshwar Rao said that, sale of liquor has been banned in the constituency and around 5 kilometres of the constituency from Thursday May 31 evening to Saturday May 2.
 
The political parties should stop election campaign at 5 pm on May 31. At the same time, all the campaigners and campaign functionaries etc who have been brought from out side the constituency and who are not voters of the constituency should not continue to remain present in the constituency, DC added.

Polling will be held between 7 am to 5 pm on June 2 and election counting would be held at KPT on Thursday June 5.  The counting will be started at 8 am and expected to be completed within 11.30 am, said he.

A total of 1,60,862 voters are there in the constituency. Out of them 1,45,129 voters have got the photo identity card issued by the election commission and 15,733 voters have not got these identity cards. Only those who have not got this photo identity card, can use other photo identity cards which are prescribed by the election commission, he informed.
