Udupi, May7 30: National Highway 17 seems to have not satisfied with the fatal accidents that have claimed innumerable lives in the recent past.  While no one can ever easily forget the accident of Muloor that proved fatal for 17 persons, minor accidents are not noticed by anyone.  Some of them even say that only when one or two are killed, it could be called as accident.  Otherwise it is just a mishap.

This seems quite true too as almost 15 accidents have taken place between Katpadi and Mulki on National Highway 17 in the last fortnight.  Hardly anyone has noticed any of them since none were fatal. Tuesday May 29 was not exception to this as two more accidents were reported.

While a lorry carrying a crane from Hubli rammed into an electric pole by the roadside, a bullet tanker made its way into a roadside shop at Pangla.

Almost 20 lorries had started from Hubli carrying cranes to Mangalore.  One of them rammed into an electric pole near Kallapu near Katpadi after driver lost control over it.  It is said that it was drizzling and smooth road proved dangerous as the driver could apply brakes to lorry. As a result 3 electric polls which were by the roadside have been damaged.  Though the lorry cleaner has sustained injuries, driver escaped unhurt.

A bullet tanker crashed into a shop by the roadside at Pangla on NH 17 on Tuesday damaging the shop and electric poles.  Though the damaged shop is close to bus stand, no one was present in the bus stand at the time of the accident.  A few persons who were standing near the shop ran from the spot and escaped.

Kaup police have registered case regarding both accidents.
