Bantwal, May 31: Thieves broke into the Bobbekeri Kodi house of Dr Shivakumar of Benaka Clinic in Vittal and decamped with gold, cash and articles of value Rs 3.89 lac on Tuesday night.

The doctor's family was away in Mysore for a function and he had locked the house and was in the clinic.

He had left around 4-30 pm and when he returned around 10-00 pm he came to know that the main door of the house had been broken open with the help of the pick-axe lying behind the house.

The miscreants appear to have ransacked the house for the keys. Finding the keybunch in a plastic bowl, they could easily open all steel wardrobes and loot the valuables.

Gold worth 45.5 sovereign, Rs 20,000 in cash and a DVD players are said to be the main items taken away.

The crime is suspected to have been committed between 7 and 8 pm.


Puttur ASP Dr Harsha and other police personnel have visited the place. Vittal sub inspector P K Harishchandra is following up the case.

Fingerprint experts and sniffer dog team also inspected the place. A prominent fingerprint has been recorded. The sniffer dog led the police towards the old KEB office.

Based on the clues, a suspect is said to have been arrested by the police and he  is being interrogated.
