Udupi, May 31: For the first time in the history of Dakshina Kannada district 9 students trained in the first batch of IIT-JEE training programme at MICE here have been in IIT-JEE 2007.

MICE had trained 19 students in its first batch. The training was for 2 years consisting of 1400 hours of class room training/tests and mock exams.  The selection rate at MICE is 46%. The highest selections in the country are from Kota, Rajasthan, where the selection rate is 15%.   

Indian Institute of Technology is one of the most prestigious Engineering Institutes of the country. IIT-JEE is a science-oriented entrance exam, testing candidate's knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry. Admission is very competitive, given the huge population of India. The undergraduate acceptance rate through JEE has a low ratio, around 1 in 55, with about 3, 00,000 annual test takers. This year IIT-JEE National-level examination was held on Sunday April 8. 

In all the previous years the average selection from DK combined was 1 or 2 and there was a general opinion that getting into IIT was impossible and hence for engineering AIEEE or CET was the only choice.

MICE started the training with the aim of changing this opinion and this has been proved by the above results, especially with All-India rank 42. So far there is no record of any rank in this region within 50.  This proves that there are very intelligent students in this region but there was a lack of proper guidance.

The 9 students selected are Dilip R Kini AIR 42, Abhiman Acharya AIR-708, Pavan Kumar Holla- 789, Chethan Kumar AIR- 1461, Rakesh Amin AIR- 4732, Srikanth D M AIR- 4902, Christol Moses AIR- 5738, aurav Shenoy AIR-6089 and Karthik Hebbar.
