Udupi, Jun 1: Five people who had raided a jeweler in the guise of income tax officers earlier this week were caught by the Brahmavar police on Wednesday May 30.

Bhaskar Acharya, a jeweler of Perdoor here had been cheated by the fraud income tax officers who demanded Rs 50,000 from him and threatened to seize all the jewellery.

Following this, Acharya filed a complaint at the Hiriadka police station and after a thorough search the culprits were found at city’s Karavali Hotel, with the help of their photos and the information given by the hotel staff.

The culprits have been identified as Sathish, Dayanand, Suresh Babu, Raguram and Shailaja.

The police team was ably led by Brammavar PSI Dinesh Kumar. The accused will be brought to city and the jewels that had been taken from Bhaskar have also been seized.
