Puttur: Mardhala celebrates Rebeka's bronze medal for India in basketball

Puttur, Aug 8: On her return home, Rebeka, student of Bethany Jeevanjyoti special school at Mardhala near Kadaba, was given a grand reception for her proud feat of representing India in basketball in the special Olympics world games held at Los Angeles USA and winning bronze medal, on Friday August 7.

A large number of office bearers of different organizations, officials, students of her school, local administration, political leaders and members of the public gathered in large numbers near Goddess Durgambika temple of Kadaba on Uppinangady-Subrahmanya state highway, to receive Rebeka. Rebeka was cheered on her arrival and garlands were offered by various persons on behalf of JCI, JCI Charitable Trust, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Merchants Association, local administration, general pubic, students of the school, revenue department and others.

On behalf of JCI Kadaba Kadamba, she was felicitated by placing the ceremonial headgear, 'Mysore Peta' on her head and draping her with a shawl near the temple. From there, Rebeka was taken in an open jeep accompanied by a grand procession. The procession also included students of St Joachims and St Anns schools. The procession ended after it moved through Kadaba town and reaching St Joachim's educational institutions.

Kadaba special tahsildar, B Lingaiah, gram panchayat president, Babu Mugera, APMC president, Krishna Shetty, block Congress president, P P Verghese, priests, Fr George Kalayil, Fr Michael Lobo and Fr Antony, Kadaba police sub-inspector, Yogeesh Kumar, presidents of various organizations, gram panchayat members, representatives of merchants association and many others were present.
