Bengaluru, Aug 14: Valmiki Yaaru or who is Valmiki? This is not a quiz question. But the Siddaramaiah-headed Congress government’s brief to a high powered fact finding committee headed by noted Kannada writer Prof Hampa Nagarajaiah to study and submit a report on the book: ``Valmiki Yaaru?’’

The book ``Valmiki Yaaru?’’ has been authored by another leading Kannada writer K S Narayanacharya.

The Siddaramaiah government has issued an official order issued asking the 14-member committee headed by Prof Hampa Nagarajaiah to submit its report in two months

Karnataka High Court’s Additional Director General A G Shivanna, on July 20, 2015, directed the State Government to constitute a committee to study the book.

BJP turned Bengaluru into a garbage mess

Meanwhile, the ruling Congress party on Friday said the BJP has demonstrated its model of governance by turning the garden city into garbage city during its five year rule in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, who is also the AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, hit out at the opposition BJP for its failure to tackle infrastructure and civic problems in the City during its rule.

The Bengaluru City was grappling with several issues on civic and infrastructure fronts owing to bad governance by the BJP.

Instead of ruling the City, the BJP councillors involved in garbage contract business, Singh said.

Earlier in the day, the AICC general secretary was actively participated in party’s poll campaigned.

Rahul not coming for BBMP poll campaign

Singh said the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi would not come to the City for party’s campaigning for BBBP elections.

Asked about the Congress vice president’s visit to the State, which witnessed several farmers’ suicides, Singh said the party was preparing the plan for Gandhi’s visit to the State.

However, he declined to give firm dates of the visit.

The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister came down heavily on the ruling BJP at the Centre and blamed it for the near washout of the monsoon session and not passing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill.

“It is the BJP, which is responsible for the blocking the GST bill by failing to take action in the wake of the acts of “omission and commission” of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in Lalit Modi controversy and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan in Vyapam scam,’’ he said.

Modi should explain why he opposed GST as CM

The Congress was the “author and architect” of the GST bill and had been trying for since 2006 to build consensus on the measure when the opposition was coming from BJP, especially its government in Gujarat.

He hit back at Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who had accused Congress of creating obstacles in the path of national growth and development, and said it was the BJP that had delayed GST all these years.

“Why Narendra Modi opposed the GST bill, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat,’’ he asked and wanted the Prime Minister to explain to the people.

Now, the BJP has been trying to divert the attention of the people form real issues by blaming the Congress for blocking the bill, Singh added.
