FIR against Vinod Kambli, wife Andrea for beating up maid

Mumbai, Aug 30 (PTI): An FIR has been registered against former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli and his wife following a complaint filed by the couple's domestic help, police said today.

The Bandra Police filed the FIR yesterday against 43-year-old Kambli and his wife after the complaint by their maid, who alleged that the couple was not paying proper wages to her and when she asked for it, they misbehaved with her, a police officer said.

"Yesterday, a woman Soni Sarsal (30) made a complaint at Bandra Police Station against Vinod Kambli and his wife Andrea that they had not allowed her to return home and wrongfully confined for three days when she asked them for the wages," Mumbai Police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said.

In this regard, a case under IPC sections 343 (wrongful confinement), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) has been registered at Bandra Police Station, he said.

An officer at Bandra Police Station said they may call Vinod and his wife after ascertaining a few missing links in her statement.

To a question whether they would issue a summon to the couple, he declined to comment.

    @ Harsha Malohtra,
Better to have 'Action Replay' (TV) for the benefit of the commentators.

"If it's the case of 'no ball' need 'confession"
Why can't you suggest, 'Action replay' as benefit of doubt.

    Hussain,
In my opinion I think he has been bowled of a 'no-ball'. I am not sure. Umpire needs to refer it to the TV umpire to check if it is a no-ball or not.

Hard to digest the maid's complaint. The reason is very silly. Looks like someone behind the maid to mislead her against the employer.

Capacity to exercise restraint comes only through virtuous life.
    Character is God's real blessing!
In a civil, law abiding society, we all are bound to CONDUCT ourselves properly at all times,
    including in our communication.
Celebrities should be even more cautious in abiding the law, for they are role models of many!
If they have name, fame and income from advertisements promoting products, why shouldn't they get harsher punishment for breaking the law?

The easiest way to earn quick bucks for the maids in celebrities home, is to file a false complain.

If there is a CCTV camera, at least 50% false complain can be proved wrong.

My comments are general in nature. If the complaint is false then maid should be persecuted for defamation and for bearing false witness.
Investigations should be carried out to see who instigated her to file false complaint, whole truth will come out!
There can be many enemies of Vinod Kambli and Andrea!

    Dear Valerian,
It would be risky to pre-judge. Having lived in Mumbai for so many years I can say with confidence that many of the domestic helps here are not all that innocent. This does not mean the Kamblis should be given a clean chit. Let there be a proper investigation into the charges and let all the evidence be examined thoroughly.
