Mumbai: Two women, with 10-yr-old in tow, kidnap toddler from Kurla

Aug 31 (Midday News): A three-year-old girl was kidnapped by two women, who had a 10-year-old girl in tow, from Kurla yesterday. A case has been registered with the VB Nagar police station in Kurla and cops have made sketches of the two accused based on CCTV footage obtained from the area.

According to the police, the incident took place around 8.30 am on Saturday when the toddler, Smruti alias Eshu Balsingh Badera, followed her aunt to the bathroom in a neighbouring building. An officer from VB Nagar police station said, “The victim is the daughter of a watchman, Balsingh, who works in Kantaria Mahal building near Naaz hotel in Kurla, and the whole family stays in the watchman’s room in the building.” In the morning, Smruti’s aunt went to bathe in the nearby building and the toddler followed her. Police said while the aunt was taking a bath, Smruti stood in a lane adjacent to LBS Marg, where two women — believed to be around 50 and 18 — who had a 10-year-old in tow, arrived, and smooth talked Smruti into going with them. “We have obtained CCTV footage in the case, in which we can clearly see two women and a girl coming and talking to the victim. However, the accused haven’t forcefully kidnapped the toddler, they have convinced her to go with them. The CCTV shows the victim walking with the trio,” added the officer. The VB Nagar police have registered the case under Section 363 (Kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and teams have been formed to nab the culprits.
