New Delhi, Sep 11 (India Today) : Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was still silent on the Vyapam and Lalit Modi scams. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj as well as Chief Ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are facing allegations of corruption in the two scams.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje are facing allegations of helping former Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi who is being investigated in a money laundering case. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is under the cloud for a recruitment scam.
Speaking at an event in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, with both Sushma and Chouhan in attendance earlier on Thursday, Modi had hit out at Gandhi for her 'hawabaazi' (empty talk) comment, alleging that the 'hawalabaaz' (scamsters) are unnerved due to the tough stance of the government on black money. Addressing the BJP workers in Bhopal, Modi said the Congress was resorting to disruptive tactics in Parliament as it was not being able to come to terms with its defeat in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
In a high-level Congress meeting on Tuesday, Sonia had said the Prime Minister has been reduced to "unedifying flip flops" and most of his poll promises were nothing more than "hawabaazi" (empty talk).
