Haque puts Bangladesh in front

Mysuru, Sep 23 (IANS): A battling knock of 89 runs (87b, 8x4, 5x6) by opener Anamul Haque lifted the touring Bangladesh A to 188 for three, a lead of 59, against Karnataka at stumps on the second and penultimate day of their warm-up game here on Wednesday.

Earlier, Karnataka, resuming at their overnight score of 163 for six in reply to the visitors' first innings tally of 158, closed at 287 thanks mainly to their lower-order batsmen, led by Shishir Bhavane (88, 175b, 13x4, 2x6), besides useful contributions from Jagadeesha Suchit (41) and Udit Patel (40).

Off-spinner Shuvgata Hom and left-arm spinner Saqlain Sajib came away with four wickets apiece for Bangladesh A.

In their second innings, the visitors fared better than their efforts in the first essay and managed a lead of 59 runs over the hosts going into the final day's play on Thursday.

Brief scores:
Bangladesh A 158 and 188 for 3 in 44 overs (Anamul Haque 89, Liton Das 37 not out, Udit Patel 2 for 44) vs Karnataka 287 all out in 92.3 overs (Shishir Bhavane 88, Jagadeesha Suchit 41, Udit Patel 40, Saqlain Sajib 4 for 85, Shuvgata Hom 4 for 45).
