Udupi, Jul 17: Anganawady workers staged a dharna in front of the Zilla Panchayat office here seeking better service facilities on Monday July 16. 

In a memorandum submitted to ZP president, B N Shankar Poojary, Udupi district unit of Karnataka State Anganawady Workers' Association demanded the hike in honorarium paid to anganawady workers.

The anganawady workers should be treated alike with any other employees besides being paid well. The benefits of ESI and EPF should be extended to them also. 

Apart from this, a three-member committee should be formed to study their routine problems. The workers should also be given the retirement benefits. 

The honorarium should be paid at a stipulated time, the memorandum stated. 

K Shankar vice-president of the state unit of Centre for Indian Trade Unions, Sabitha Shetty secretary of Kundapur unit of the Sangha, Yamuna Gaonkar, Das Bhandary, Ramesh Mendon and Dogu Suvarna were present.
