Mangalore July 17: Public is loosing its faith in the democracy owing to corruption and lack of honesty, said lokayukta N Santhosh Hegde at the auditorium of Corporation Bank Officers Union, here.
Speaking at the Balasubrahmanya Memorial lecture programme he said that corruption has been ‘beyond the differences of caste and religion’, and fighting against it is futile.
It has become a common belief that the eradication of corruption is entrusted only to the government and lokayukta, he added.
Officers are bribed by common people as they want to speed up their work, he said and opined that everyone must be ready to face the delay if he or she wants to uproot the social evil.
Eradication of corruption is the need of the day as it affects economy of our country, foreign exchange, investment, and grants, he said.
T R Bhat, president of corporation bank officers’ union and D N Prakash, chief secretary were present on the occasion.
