Mangaluru, Dec 9: The scientists of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Wednesday December 9 captivated the attention of students of various pre-university colleges of the city with 'Rocket experiment' and the rocket and satellite models in the exhibition on 'India's achievements in space science and technology' at Mahesh PU College premises here.

It was the water rocket made by the public relations officer of ISRO B R Guruprasad, a scientist himself, that stole the show. Made using two water bottles, with 300 ml compressed water as fuel, the rocket not only travelled some distance but also evoked curiousity about India's space mission among everyone.

The scientists eagerly shared their knowledge with the students who listened with rapt attention. There were models of sattellite carriers PSLV and VSLV and various other sattelites as well.

The scientists also explained the usage ISRO's new application, 'Sakaar' to the students. He said that this application shows live camera view on the user's device to represent the physical world. Virtual objects are then superimposed on the live camera view and together the live camera view and the virtual objects appear to be tightly coupled in on the device's screen. The virtual objects can consist of 3D models, videos and anaglyph images.

Prior to the above activities, an inaugural ceremony was held in the presence of the trustee of the college Sujith Kumar, director of Pilikula Regional Science Center Dr K V Rao, PRO of ISRO B R Guruprasad, DDPI of of Dakshina Kannada district Walter D'Mello, and principal of the college Dr Ajith D'Souza.

The day I will be proud and the country too will be when our students who are doing engineering will be able to produce one high end car or bikes. When it comes to TV's, Mobiles, music instruments, Motor vehicles of all kinds, I have seen that they are imported. Out of 100 engineering students we produce every year only 15% of them are fit to be real engineering. Rest are muggers and book worms. Time we change the system of education/syllabus which includes method of teaching and also give them more practical knowledge. I have seen engineering is more of theory than practical. Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineers are found to be duffards whereas those who diplomas in these courses become prosperous later on through hard and more practical work.
