Bantwal, Jan 12: The national highways authority on Tuesday January 12 evening demolished several illegal petty shops selling fast food, clothes, fruits and vegetables. The shops had reportedly encroached the highway at Farangipet junction.

The highway officials and police department acted after several complaints were received from locals about these illegally installed petty shops.

The petty shops had occupied the space meant for pedestrians. As the customers were parking their vehicles everywhere, pedestrians were finding it difficult to move about. The highway authority had served notices to the shops besides warning them once or twice. Some traders removed their belongings voluntarily as the officials arrived with JCB machines to demolish the shops.

The officials also towed away the scooters parked near the bus stand in a haphazard manner.

Rural police sub-inspector Rakshit A K led the operation. Though some of the petty shop owners raised objections with the police, the demolition was carried out.

Two-day notice to other petty shops

The shops at Farangipete junction occupying the national highway such as scrap shop, hardware, fruits and vegetables vendor and fast-food outlets should be removed within the next two days, failing which they will be demolished with the help of the police and using JCB, warned the officials of national highways authority.

Since footpaths are clear now, please clearly mark footpath area, make proper drain lines and lay interlocks so that it will help the pedestrians. Govt has gained big money on low oil price, at least let us have some good footpaths on account of 40 to 50 billion dollars earned by low petro dollars!

In Mangalore City many vendors are selling omelets, charambuli, bhel puri etc in old motor vehicles like tempo's etc. This can be seen at light house hill / Kadri Park and other parts of the city. They are blocking the way of pedestrians. This is against the Motor Vehicles Act. The cops are taking hafta from these vendors and looking the other way thereby giving them a clean chit. These type of vendors should be forcefully removed immediately. The Commissioner of Police, RTO and the DC pass by light House Hill road practically every day. Are they also blind to all this ?

Light House Hill and Kadri Park are tourist spots of Mangalore City. We cannot allow these hawkers permanently around in some old dilapidated vehicles which are converted into shops. Its an eye sore.

Jeevan Sir, You are a SICK of BJP. It is always better to think objectively rather than politically. People like you neither allow other to do good nor you do good to others. If a good work done by any political party may be BJP, Cong. JD etc. must be appreciated when they do wrong must be condemned. Let BJP appoint you as their spokes person soon.
