Manipal varsity to hold three-day-long fest ‘Article 19’ from Feb 18

Manipal, Feb 10: School of Communication, Manipal University is holding its annual core communication fest ‘Article 19’ on February 18, 19 and 20. The three-day-long fest includes several talks and workshops by the renowned faces in the media industry.

Since the beginning of Article 19 in 2002, the institute has been inviting many recognized names from the media industry. The speakers who have confirmed this year are Prahlad Kakkar, Sathya Saran, Patrcia Mukhim amongst a few. Terribly Tiny Tales will also be holding a workshop for the students on creating tweet-sized story.

Sathya Saran is the former long-time editor of ‘Femina’ and ‘ME’, the now defunct magazine under DNA.

Prahlad Kakkar is an advertising film director, whose iconic work includes commercials for Pepsi, Nestlé and Britannia. On the side, he runs a scuba-diving school, ‘Lacadives’, in Lakshadweep. Kakkar will be talking on the social role of modern advertising. 

Nitin Gokhale is one of India’s most prolific journalists, specifically in the field of National Security and Strategy. He has worked as a reporter for Tehelka and NDTV, and currently runs ‘Bharat Shakti’, a website which supplies news on the Defense Sector. He will be giving a talk on 'Reporting in the Conflict Zones'.

Media Unconference: Panel Discussion

The panel discussion will be held on AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) and it will include army officers, journalists in the panel.

Patricia Mukhim is the current editor of ‘The Shillong Times’ and a prominent journalist for ‘The Hindu’. Mukhim’s numerous articles comprise a small part of published Journalistic work that sufficiently details life in North-East India.

Dr VBJ Chelikani Rao is a man with humanitarian bent, having worked with UNESCO as an official representative to numerous NGOs in Paris, for over 30 years. His experience with social engineering is the driving force behind his ongoing community-building pursuits.

At the Tales workshop, get an exclusive peek into the world of micro-fiction including insights and tips from our writers. Also, write your own terribly tiny tale, and get a chance to be featured on the platform.

The fest also includes various competitions for the media students across the country – Literary Arts, Dance Society, Speaking Arts Society, Music Society, Dramatics Society, Film Society, Digital Society and Fine Arts. Winners will be facilitated with awards and cash prizes on the Express Awards night.
