Mangalore, Oct 6: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president H Shashidhar Shetty while speaking at a press meet here stated that the chain of supermarkets which have come up in the city recently, is a threat to the livelihood of small shop owners selling vegetables and groceries.

Therefore he threatened that if these supermarkets did not stop opening new outlets and close the existing outlets, the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike along with the small shop owners will be constrained to lock-up these outlets on October 17.

At the press meet he advised that while giving licenses, the city corporation must give precedence to the entrepreneurs in the State. Over 40 to 50 supermarkets will come up in the city, which will lead to monopoly in the market. The city does not need so many supermarkets, he added.

Moreover there were other demands made too that all government offices and buildings must carry name plaques in Kannada before November 1. According to Shetty, the Vedike had already presented these demands to the concerned department and if it fails to respond within the deadline, the Vedike will paint the name plaques black, he warned.

PRO Ameer Hasan Maduru and others were also present on the ocassion.

This is quite necessary. Small entrepreneurs are the bread earners of their family hence need to be give more preference than to large supermarkets which are not necessary. Also the preference to be given to local people while giving prmission to set up any businees in Karnataka. Name boards in kannadas are a must .

If you go to Kerala, Andhra, Tamilnadu the locals will not answer your queries unless you speak in their language even if they understand . Why should Karnataka be so generous to all and sundry. If outsiders want to prosper in Karnataka let them first respect the locals.
