New Delhi, Apr 8 (HF) : In a chilling turn of events, a 26-year-old woman from Raipur hanged herself yesterday in front of her 2-year-old son, as she was depressed over TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee's suicide. The woman's body was found by her husband who was away when the incident happened, The Times Of India reported.

The report further stated that the woman, Madhu Mahanand, was obsessed with Anandi, the character Banerjee played on the popular TV show, 'Balika Vadhu.' The husband, identified as Nakul Mahanand, told the police that she was extremely disturbed on learning about Banerjee's suicide and was keenly following news reports about the incident.

While cops initially suspected foul play and detained the husband, he was eventually released after the woman's parents asserted the fact that their daughter was indeed 'fixated' with Banerjee's 'Balika Vadhu' avatar and that could have led her to take the drastic step.

Fans subscribing to self-harm tactics isn't a new phenomena.
