Udupi, Oct 20: 53 birds and 27 animals of different species were rescued, by the forest officials, from the house of Sudheendra Aithal in Saligrama town near here on Friday October 19.

Speaking to media persons R K Srivastava, deputy conservator, said that they had received credible information about animals being kept illegally caged.  According to Schedule I and II of the Wildlife Protection Act, one cannot imprison the animals, he informed. Hence, they were rescued from the house, he added.

The rescued animals will be first screened at Wildlife Division Office at Karkala, he informed. Few of the rescued animals will be taken to the rehabilitation centre at Mysore zoo, where a health check-up will be done, he added.

According to Sudheendra Aithal right from his childhood he loved birds and animals. He used to get the injured birds and animals to his home and would treat them with utmost care. He expressed his displeasure at the raids and said that he found these animals and birds injured and so brought them home.

“But after they were treated, they were left in the forests. But some animals and birds, which were not fit enough or could not adjust to forest life, are still being taken care of”, Aithal clarified his stand. Even the department of forests used to get injured birds and animals to him. But now they are planning to put legal action against this, he lamented.

However, according to Srivastava only those birds and animals were taken by the Forest Department officials that came under the purview of the Wildlife Protection Act. He informed that the wild animals were being kept there since many years without obtaining any official permission and this is a punishable offence. Aithal even used to fix entry fees for the visitors who came to watch these animals. Hence, he said that legal action would be initiated against him.

I have been visiting this place since my childhood and I am 22 year old now. Mr.Sudheendra Aithal is an immense animal lover and he use to rescue the animals which were fount ill and bring it to his home and treat them and look at them with utmost care. He never use to charge people who use to come to see those animals.

He has kept a donation box as he felt that if he could get some help for treating them just because he wanted to give very good care and improve the place. I oppose forest department's act and it is highly inappropriate. The reports are also wrong. Let the forest department give him a licence to keep those animals which he loves more than his life.

Sudheendra Aithal was a true animal lover. He never used animals for making money. The endangered animals which were in his possession were not brought by him. They were injured or for any other reason people around the village, gave for treatment.

Since they developed good attachment with Mr. Aithal during his care, they never left him. Many a times, forests guards have brought many animals to Mr. Aithal for treatment. These so called forest guards might have warned Mr. Aithal before they do ruthless raid on the Zoo

Sudheendra Aithal is a true animal lover... If our forest department has any concern about the animals they would have given sufficient time to Aithal and under his guidance they would placed the animals in suitable places, that will be humanity.

It looks like not the Aithal who is doing this for money ... our forest department is doing this for money, most of them do not know  any thing about animals and who are doing the govt job just for the salary. We all have to support Aithal and show our corrupt government the strength of the people power.

It's all eye wiping drama from the forest officials. Once in a while they get up from their deep sleep and want to show their top management that they are doing their duties. Unfortunately they get innocent people like Aithal on whom they can put the badge of culprit. If these forest officials are really brave, dedicated and honest to their duty, then let them catch the real sandalwood smugglers, poachers etc.

There are several punishable offences. This govt. officer found an animal lover to fulfil his quota. May he get a double promotion for his ruthless act in the name of law.

I know Sudheendra since childhood it is highly impossible to believe that he is doing this for money. What the heck this srivasta was doing all these days and we all know how well these corrupt guys are taking care of wild animals. See tha state of Bannerghatta zoological park (for the matter of fact all zoo's and reserved forests) and the state of western ghats. These guys treated Aithal's brother who is settled in puttur now also in the same manner.
