Mangalore, Oct 28: Today Hermann Mögling or Reverend Ferdinand Kittel are not remembered as missionaries who came down to India to convert or to make India a Christianized  country, rather they are remembered for their singular contribution to language and literature of Karnataka, declared Surendra Rao, chairman of Department of History, Mangalore University here on Saturday, October 27.

Rao was addressing a gathering at the book releasing ceremony of  a book entitled "Future in remembrance" edited and digitalized by Dr Albrecht Frenz and Dr Stefan Frenz respectively at Bishop Jathanna Auditorium, Balmatta, in the city.

One must know about history, past must be remembered otherwise mistakes committed in the past will be repeated. History is always created, unless one creates history, history does not exist. History is not something static as each generation and each place creates history. One has to know the difference between history and memories. History is not a matter of events, history is somehow created but events do occur, he added.

Documentation plays a decisive role in India as information will be conveyed, here, mostly verbally, however, there may be possibilities of losing crucial information owing to lack of documentation; therefore documentation of information is highly necessary, pointed out Maheshwar Rao M, deputy commissioner, DK district.

Dr Albrecht Frenz, theologian and Dr Stefan Frenz, computer scientist from Germany were felicitated on the occasion.

Fr Dr CL Furtado, retired Bishop, Karnataka Southern Diocese presided over the function.

Charles Furtado, lecturer, department of English, St Aloysius College compered the programme.
