Leslie Jones wants more diversity in fashion

Los Angeles, July 3 (IANS): “Ghostbusters” actress Leslie Jones riled up the fashion industry with a tweet that expressed frustration over finding something to wear for the film’s red carpet premiere.

The “Saturday Night Live” cast member’s tweet on Tuesday read: “It is so funny how there are no designers wanting to help me with a premiere dress for the movie. Hmmm that will change and I remember everything.”

When fans and media outlets began picking up the tweet, and interpreting it as an insult to the fashion industry for not catering to women of her height, race, age or some combination of the three, some came to Jones’s defence, while others, like Bryanboy, took offence.

The blogger and social media influencer who has appeared on “America’s Next Top Model” tweeted: “What an entitled actress! She got paid money for her work, please use that money like the rest of us -- go shopping.”

Popular designer and “Project Runway” alum Christian Siriano, meanwhile, responded by offering to make Jones a dress.

Jones accepted the offer and on Thursday, the designer and comedian took turns posting pictures on social media of their fashion collaboration.

In response to the conversation spurred by Jones’s initial tweet and his decision to make her a dress, Siriano tweeted, “It shouldn’t be exceptional to work with brilliant people just because they’re not sample size. Congrats aren’t in order, a change is.”

"Ghostbusters", directed by Paul Feig, will hit the screens in India on July 15. A remake of the famous 1984 American supernatural horror comedy, it also stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth.
