Mumbai, Jul 3: After a prolonged battle over censorship, Diljit Dosanjh's much-awaited film Satluj, previously titled Punjab 95, has finally been released on the streaming platform ZEE5.

Directed by Honey Trehan, the film is inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who exposed alleged human rights violations and enforced disappearances during the Punjab insurgency before he was allegedly abducted and killed.

Speaking about his decision to take on the project, Diljit Dosanjh said the story of Jaswant Singh Khalra's courage and sacrifice deeply moved him.

"Jaswant Singh Khalra ji's martyrdom and contribution to humanity were the primary reasons I chose to be part of this film. When I first heard the script, I was deeply moved because it is rooted in the lived experiences, struggles and sacrifices of real people," he said.

Diljit added that opportunities to portray such meaningful characters are rare and that he felt a profound responsibility while bringing the role to life.

"From the moment I heard the script, I was committed to portraying such an inspiring character with honesty, truth and the utmost respect. Satluj is a story of conviction, courage and humanity. Playing this character has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career, and I am grateful that audiences across the world can finally watch the film on ZEE5," he said.

The film's release comes shortly after Diljit stated that he would stay away from the political satire movement known as the Cockroach Janta Party, reiterating his preference to focus on his artistic work.

In the film, Diljit portrays a character inspired by Jaswant Singh Khalra, whose relentless campaign sought justice for thousands of people who allegedly disappeared during anti-insurgency operations in Punjab.

Director Honey Trehan said the filmmakers remained committed to presenting the story with authenticity despite the delays.

"From the beginning, our intention was to tell this story with honesty, sensitivity and without compromise. After a long wait, audiences can finally see the result of our hard work. Satluj is not just one man's story—it is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. Everyone associated with the film believed this important story deserved to be told," he said.

The film depicts Khalra's determined efforts to uncover the truth behind the alleged disappearance of more than 25,000 people, highlighting the personal sacrifices he made in his pursuit of justice.

Produced by RSVP Movies and MacGuffin Pictures, the film also features Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan in key roles.

Satluj is now available for streaming in Hindi on ZEE5.
