Ramanagara, Jul 7: Puttalingamma (65), mother of Channapatna tahsildar, K Ramesh, was found to have died at the official residence of the tahsildar on Wednesday July 6 morning. The site of the incident has given rise to suspicion that this could be a case of murder.

The residential quarters of the tahsildar is located near the bus stand of Channapatna. Tahsildar, Ramesh, reached his home on Wednesday afternoon for lunch, and rang the calling bell. As his mother did not open the door for long, he sent his driver, Vijay, into the house through the rear door. Vijay found Puttalingamma lying in a pool of blood. She had fallen down, and was found to have died out of severe head injuries. Her body was in a pool of blood.

The preliminary presumption of the police is that it was a case of murder committed by a gang of four or more persons. The fact that the pressure cooker has fallen down from the gas stove, pulses placed inside the cooker had spilled out, and the gold chain around the woman's neck had gone missing, gave clues that it was a case of murder. Some blood stains were found in neighbouring rooms. If the cooker had burst, it would have made a sound and the people at the bus stand would have heard it. Therefore, it is strongly believed that a gang of thieves had committed this crime.

District superintendent of police, Dr Chandragupta, said that it is a prima facie case of murder committed with the help of lethal weapons. He said that two separate teams, one headed by deputy superintendent of police, and the other by circle inspector, have been formed to investigate the case.
