Karkala, Jul 13: In a tragic incident which occurred near the bus stand in the town on Tuesday July 12 morning, a daily wage worker died after he accidentally fell down from atop an electric pole.

The victim has been identified as Subrahmanya (50), resident of Keremane, Hirgana near here. He was working as an assistant for an electrical contractor here since the last three years. When working on the electric pole near the bus stand on Tuesday, he fell after electric shocks flowed through his body. Due to the fall, he suffered head injuries and died on the spot.

As per rules, employees of electric supply companies alone can climb electric poles to conduct repairs, that too after cutting off power supply. In this case, the worker had been allowed to go up the pole in the presence of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company staff. The people in general are critical of this negligent attitude of the electricity supply company employees.
