Udupi, Jul 18: Hiriadka police have taken seven persons into custody relating to the murder of Sheikh Mohammed Tasneem.
The body of Sheikh Mohammed Tasneem (35) from Kemmannu was found in a black Volkswagen Polo car in a deserted area about 300 metres off the main road at Ontibettu under Hiriadka police limits on Thursday, July 14.

Out of the seven suspects taken into custody 3 are close friends of the deceased, sources said. They are Saifuddin, Imthiaz and Diwakar. Some financials dealings with regard to gold smuggling led to sour relationship which ended in the murder if Tasneem, sources said. The names of other suspects are not known.
The police had suspected murder on the day the body was found and a investigation team was constituted under circle inspector Srikanth. The team took the suspects into custody on Monday, July 18. The investigation is still in progress and more details are awaited.
