St Aloysius hosts ‘Sangam 2025’ with Pruthvi Ambaar as chief guest

Mangaluru, Feb 12: The PG departments of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, organised an interdepartmental cultural extravaganza, Sangam 2025, for postgraduate students on February 11 at Mother Teresa Peace Park.

Renowned Kannada-Tulu film actor and alumnus Pruthvi Ambaar graced the event as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Pruthvi Ambaar shared how the nurturing environment at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) and the encouragement of the management and teachers shaped his career from being a dancer to a radio jockey to a film actor of renown. He also said that the skills and knowledge he acquired during his time as an MA (media and communication) student at St Aloysius Deemed to be University helped him in his film career.

The inauguration was presided over by Fr Melwyn Joseph Pinto SJ, rector, St Aloysius Institutions, Dr Praveen Martis SJ ,vice-chancellor, pro vice-chancellor Dr Melwyn D’Cunha SJ, along with Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar of St Aloysius Autonomous College , Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar of St Aloysius Deemed to be University, LCRI block director Dr Asha Abraham, Maffei block director Dr Loveena Lobo, dean of PG studies Dr P P Sajimon, Devishree Shetty and Clarett D’Souza, staff coordinators of Sangam. Student coordinators Ali Musba and Riyola Nishal Monteiro were also present on the dais.

The inauguration also marked the release of a riddle book 'Twisted Logic' by Melisha D’Souza, an MCom student of the university. As part of the event, MJES scholarships were awarded to meritorious students in recognition of their academic excellence.

Sangam 2025 is the interdepartmental cultural extravaganza of the PG departments of (Deemed to be University). During the day-long event, over 12 teams competed in the variety entertainment competition.

As part of Sangam 2025, a wide range of competitions were held over the past week including wealth out of waste, rangoli, debate, folk dance, creative writing, general quiz, group singing, photography, collage, and sports events like shuttle badminton, volleyball, and throwball, were held throughout the week.

The prizes were distributed at the valedictory function graced by pro vice-chancellor Dr Fr Melwyn D’Cunha SJ, vice-chancellor Dr Fr Praveen Martis SJ, and finance officer Fr Vishwas Misquith SJ, who commended the students for their enthusiastic participation and teamwork.

The overall championship was won by MSc biochemistry, followed by MSc food science in second place and MA (media and communication) in third place.
