Finally train service between Mangalore and Bangalore commenced. Now with one train service between Bangalore and Mangalore it is difficult to get seat reservation. Railways should start the track work between Yeshwanthpura and Shravanabelgola so that there must be fast train between Mangalore and Bangalore.

The most needed train is the linking train between Karwar and Kasargod to this Bangalore Mangalore train. The political party who was in power for the maximum time were only able to remove the meter gauge in the pretext to convert to broad gauge thus encouraged more buses to ply between Bangalore and Mangalore followed with Heavy loaded lorries and tankers.

This has totally damaged the linking road between two cities resulting almost disconnection between these two places. This train has made journey cheaper and comfortable. The linking road Shiradi may become naxalite site soon if attention is not paid.

Finally we are free from the clutches of the bus lobby. I wish they had 2 more trains. As of now the train has plenty of capacity. the bus lobbies are purely into profiteering. They jack up prices to 450 Rs for normal seats during festivals, its ridiculous. Nice article, very detailed ! thanks!

The line could have been opened long back once safety clearance was given.even top railway official of SWR or S Rly could have opened.Railway minister coming by flight and combining other programmes is sheer waste of public money.he could have travelled by this inagural train at least upto Mysore. Anyway it is foolish to expect from our political leaders.ALSO WHY EXORBITANT RATES FOR THIS SECTION OF RAILWAY ALONE?

Atlast we got a railway connection to Bangalore. Though many blamed the centre and specially Lalu Prasad for not showing any interest for the raliway in Karnataka, now it is somewhat understood that our own state ministers where behind this as they do not benefit from the railways but from BUS operators, hence the delay. These BUS operators must have put our Karnataks ministers in their pockets. However the determination of the people of Karnataka with the help of Centre, today we have a railway line. Sometimes we have to blame ourselves rather the politicians as they have every reason to look after themselves first though the country and the people suffers.

This train should help not only the passengers of this region, but also the farmers who transport vegetables, milk and other products from other districts to Mangalore and also the train should consist of cold storage for sea fish which will help our fishermen. There should be passenger train in day time to facilitate the people to watch green forest

It's almost like a fairy tale. But this time , we hope the tale has no ending and goes on forever and ever ! This Train service is a must and should NEVER to allowed to stop. In fact , it should run as an Express Train atleast upto Hassan (And Reverese Hassan to Bangalore ) . This way the running time can be shortened considerably. Ofcourse in the long run as suggested, it should run as a Shatabdi .

Wow, finally the great news for which we were all waiting for long! But I feel, still the bus lobby has won!!! 1. Though the train will run, it will take more hours of journey. 2. The train is upto Yeshwanthpur only. Imagine the plight of passengers then! If some one has to reach say Indiranagar or Koramangala, he has to catch 2 BMTC buses to reach their destination. One can imagine waiting for these buses in Yeshwanthpur Bus Station. Also its hell travelling in these buses with lugguage or family in the wee morning hours. 3. And those Bangalore rickshaw wallas who swindle you for every paisa.... It would have been better if this train could reach Bangalore City. 4. People will still prefer to travel by buses once the ghats and roads are repaired as they will fetch you to Bangalore early morning and also to many of the remote corners of Bangalore! 5. May be the bus fares will come down.....

Glad to read that Lalu Yadav, the most efficient Union Minister of Railways will flag off the new train on Dec.8.He was the one who brought about a turnaround in the railways and was responsible in making the railways generate a surplus of over Rs.25000 crores which was acclaimed the world over to call him a management guru. Lalu Yadav is one of the few politicians with real guts who can fight the evil, dark and communal forces and check them .Welcome Lalu to Karnataka and wishing you all the best and more success in your remaining tenure as Railway Minister.

Finally, its seems the train is going to start afterall. This train is supposed to decrease the distance from Chennai to Mangalore by around 200 kms.But will the authorities start a direct tarin from Chennai? Also, I am quite curious about the chargesWhile a ticket from chennai to Mangalore(889 Kms)costs Rs338(SL) Rs 896(ACIII tier) and Rs 1241(AC II tier), why is it a journey of 332 Kms costing Rs227,Rs 611 and Rs 850 respectively in the similar classes? Anyone has answers?

It going to be election time soon and none will be surprised to see Laloo and the Cong-I leaders blowing their trumpet for flagging this long pending train that was sabotaged by none other than Deve Gowda during his rule. What is really regrettable is Laoo flying in (with family) a special IAF VVIP aircraft just to cut the ribbon and later making a pilgrimage to Tirupati! Instead of the obscene expenses for such a visit, Lord Venkateswara would have blessed the minister with health and more wealth if the railways had installed manual railway gates at so many crossing surrounding B’lre (eg, the 13 KM stone railway gate just before the Chikkabanavara station after Yestwantpur) and key cities enroute to M’lre.

Can you imagine how much fuel is burnt to start this train? The IAF plane will take Lalu to Mangalore, Tirupati and then to New-Delhi. Why we need the Minister at such a huge cost. The train can be flagged-off by any Freedom fighter in Mangalore and its national waste to get Lalu all the way from New-Delhi. If this train re-start was so easy then why we had so much trouble all these days, what Lalu has done after he becomes railway minister.

This route was operating for ages and only few repairs are done. What is the contribution of the Minister? .It is his duty to approve it once the safety standards are checked by the concerned engineers of the country. This means, It was a entire political drama to delay the project and our south kanara people suffered all these days.

Probably this befits the centenary celebration of Mangalore Railway station. Railway authorities could we christen the name of the train as" Mangalore Centenary Express". Hence we could earmark the celebration and make it memorable event in honour of the centenary. Railway officials please take some initiatives. Horata samithis how about a horata for this?

At last real train is going to be flaged off on 8th December 2007 from Mangalore to Bangalore. To benefit all the Coastal people, the Train should be extended up to Karwar or Goa. Also separate Mangalore division has to be created under Hubli Zone then only the Coastal belt will get maximum benefit from the railways. All of us hope for the better days but we should not urge /fight for our demands.
