Mangaluru, Sep 3: The First grade Principals Association of Mangalore University which met at the Sri Gokarnatheshwara College, Mangalore on September 2 has taken exception to the statement made by the university regarding the sixth semester examinations and the uploading of students’ data.
The university’s claim of announcing error free results of the sixth semester exams are far from truth. There are a lot of discrepancies in the online results and the results of a few students are not yet announced. Some students whose results are announced late are denied the opportunity to join for the post graduate courses as the last date is already over.
It’s sad that the anomalies in the fifth semester exams are also not yet settled. Some students are yet to get their marks card of the fifth semester. Some students have scored more than the maximum marks. All these are brought to the attention of the University by the Principals and unfortunately, nothing is done.
The principals have to bear the brunt of the students and parents as they approach them and not the university. It’s a matter of serious concern that the staff who approach the University with issues relating to exams are told that the principals are not raising such issues in the meetings.
Only one principals meeting is convened in a year and these issues relating to exams were raised then. But nothing was done except the assurances.
Another damaging statement was that even after conducting one round of training, principals and staff in some colleges did not have clarity on how to upload the data. Because of the faulty system it was impossible to update the required data and calls to the designated persons remain unattended.
Finally it opened on August 17 to go defunct on August 19 to become functional again on August 22.
The university has authorized the principals to attest the downloaded students’ marks sheet as the university could not issue the marks card on time. Unfortunately the marks cards issued by the university shows different marks, which is causing trouble to students who have already got admissions for higher studies. Examination question papers are not supplied to colleges on time. The association feels that counseling for the post graduate courses for university and affiliated colleges must be conducted at the same time.
The association requests the university to stop the blame game and take all stakeholders into confidence to settle these issues at the earliest and not to be a catalyst to ruin the future of students.
The special general body meeting of the association was addressed by Y Bhaskara Shetty, Secretary, Private College Managements association. He stressed the need for the principals to maintain excellence in all their activities and exalted them to work hard for quality in education. Prof Gangadhar, Principal, Sri Gokarnatheshwara college welcomed the gathering. Secretary Prof Ravish Kumar proposed the vote of thanks, Joint Secretary Prof Rajan V N introduced the guest and the meeting was presided over by Prof Shankar, President of the association. Prof Carmelita compered the programme.
New office bearers for the association elected
Prof Samuel K Samuel, principal of Crossland College, Brahmavar and Prof Ravish Kumar principal of Dhavala College, Moodabidri were elected as president and secretary respectively.
The other office bearers elected are Prof Rajan VN, principal, St Marys College, Shirva as vice president, Prof(Mrs) Aruna Kamath, Principal of SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore as Joint Secretary and Prof Iqbal Ahmed U T, Principal of Kanachur Institute of Management & Science, Mangalore as the treasurer.
