Bagalkot: CCTV cameras to keep close watch at Mudhol Ganeshotsava

Bagalkot, Sep 6: At the request of the people, 110 closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) have been installed on the occasion of Ganeshotsava at Mudhol this time. This is being done to manage the law and order situation in the district.

This was stated by northern range inspector general of police (IGP), Ramachandra Rao.

In view of the disturbances which took place during the immersion procession of last year's Ganeshotsava at Mudhol, policemen have undertaken elaborate security measures. The IGP was in the city on Sunday September 4 to review security measures. After inspecting the arrangements and initiating CCTV camera web, he addressed the press conference. He said that cameras have been installed in important circles, banks, government offices and others to be able to keep a close watch on the proceedings by sitting at the police station.

"There is no need for the people to be panicky. We have been keeping a close watch on the movements of the people who are known to incite disturbances. As a precaution, 13 persons from the district have been externed. Cases have been registered against 160 rowdies," he said, adding that 2,000 police personnel are being deployed to look after security during the immersion ceremony here.

In the meanwhile, addressing a press conference on Sunday, BJP district president, Siddu Savadi, condemned the externment of people including Hindu Jagran Vedike leader, Shivanand Badigera, at a time when Hindus and Muslims have together been celebrating this festival harmoniously.
