Puttur: Three alleged thieves remanded to police custody

Puttur, Sep 20: Out of a gang of thieves accused of being involved with thefts in several temples in the district from Thane, three have been remanded to police custody. They have been charged with committing thefts in temples falling under the jurisdiction of the office of the circle inspector, rural police station here.

A team of policemen, in the meanwhile, has been dispatched to Mumbai to recover stolen goods.

It may be recalled that a team of district crime intelligence bureau police here had succeeded in arresting five members of a gang of thieves from Thane for their involvement with thefts in several temples. Earlier attempts by policemen to arrest them had been proved futile. They were produced in the court after which three of the accused, Narasimha Reddy from Bengaluru, Chandrakanth from Honnavar, and Vishal from Mumbai were handed over to police custody till September 26. The other two, Vijay and Naveen, are in judicial custody.

The police personnel, on Monday September 19, led the accused to Korinja ord Panchalingeshwara temple, Nooji Ullalthi Daivasthana in Nooji village, and Lord Panchalingeshwara temple at Ishwaramangala for completing inquest formalities.
