Karkala, Sep 20: In a tragic accident which occurred near Kolar in the wee hours of Monday September 19, Veena alias Vidya Kamath (53) from Belman in the taluk lost her life. She was member of a team of family members which had undertaken pilgrimage to Tirumala Tirupathi in Andhra Pradesh.

Rajaram Pai, who owns this newly bought car, was at the wheels when the accident occurred. Rajaram Pai, his wife, Rekha Pai, son, Pavan alias Rakesh Pai, and daughter, Sahana Pai, also sustained critical injuries in this accident. All of them stand admitted into Manipal Hospital Bengaluru.

It is gathered that Rajaram Pai, an NRI, had recently come to his native place. He had bought a new car on Thursday last. The entourage was to undertake the pilgrimage on Thursday itself, and had obtained puja receipt online. However, on account of ongoing Cauvery disturbances, they had postponed the visit.

The family had visited Mangaluru, where they met spiritual head of Gokarn Parthagali Math, who is undertaking Chaturmasa there, and performed Padapuja. They began onward journey from there at around 6.30 pm. On Monday morning, the car went out of control of the driver, after which it smashed into a huge boulder, causing death, injuries and heavy damage to the car.

Veena is survived by a son.

    RIP Veena..Wish others speedy recovery...

Raja was my good friend, his father Pandu had a store in Belman...

Raja was working in Kuwait, when I met him last in 2000.....In India driving is LHS in most countries including Kuwait, US its RHS....it confuses some times, so I avoid driving in India...

I still remember in 1978, he bet with me Moily will loose elections, I said Vidhwaan will win...after results he came to me and put the bet money in my pocket...I was surprised, and returned it back to him....

NRIs those who comes on vacation should be very careful while driving in India as there are some diversions, speed breakers, steep curves without proper sign boards on highways and other main roads

Very sad. May her soul rest in peace.

Many of my NRI friends specially from Gulf told me that they are confused while driving in India during vacation, owing to right hand and left hand drive. And also, they find roads are not easily manageable to drive.
