Bengaluru, Sep 27: A committee of senior police officers headed by additional director general of police, Raghavendra Auradkar, which was formed by the government as per the promise made to policemen who had threatened to go on strike on June 4, met home minister, Dr G Parameshwar, at Vikasa Soudha on Monday September 26 and submitted its report containing recommendations over improvement of pay and other facilities to police personnel.

The committee has recommended 30 to 35 percent increase in the emoluments of the police personnel. As per the recommendation, highest percentage of increase has been recommended for police constable who comprise 80 percent of police workforce. The average increase sought is between Rs 6,500 and 8,500 per month. The cadres of employees who are covered by the report of the committee are spread from police constables to superintendents of police other than IPS officers.

It is gathered that monthly fitness allowance of Rs 500 to meet expenses of exercising in gym, practising Yoga etc has been recommended. Police personnel who conform to body mass index norm fixed by the department would be eligible for this allowance.

The government came under pressure to revise salary of police personnel after the police threatened to go on strike en masse protesting against low pay and discrimination by senior officers.

Speaking to media persons later, Parameshwar said that the report would be submitted to the chief minister after which the government will study the report in detail and take a decision.

In my opinion pay hike to police personnel is a must to prevent relentless corrupt practices from them.

After the pay hike will the police personnel stop relentless corrupt practices??? It is a big question???

These Police are waiting in vain in the police station to receive complaints.

Good job ! Those who do their duty irrespective rain/sun/winter, need to be rewarded. When their children's school feed mount but their pay doesn't obviously they will put forward their hand for bribe.

Stop corruption by rewarding employees with rightful/justified income.
