Udupi, Oct 10: Project vision will be presenting a blind walk ’16 - ‘Udupi blind walk’ in collaboration with the health commission and youth of Our Lady of Fathima Church Perampalli, in order to celebrate world sight day and create mass awareness on eye donation.

The programme will be held at 10 am on Thursday October 13.

A procession organized to mark ‘Udupi blind walk’, will commence from Udupi traffic police station and culminate at Mother of Sorrows Church.

Project Vision is organizing blind links across the globe in five countries and at 55 locations.

There are 385 million visually challenged persons globally out of which 39 million are completely blind. India is home to the world's largest number of blind people with 15 million persons. Barely about 35,000 corneas are collected in the country annually, though 1,50,000 are required to combat cornea blindness. Project Vision arose out the objective of shedding light on this grave socio-economic health issue.

The mission of this project is to provide opportunity to every blind person to receive sight and to provide opportunity to the permanently blind for a fulfilling life.

Eye donation can bring light to over 3 million blind persons. The other 80% can live better through various facilities. The goal is to provide an opportunity for the participants to experience what is blindness and through this to create awareness amongst the public on eye donation.
