Two dead as overloaded lorry hits Minidor in Kolkata

Kolkata, Oct 15 (IANS): Two persons died and three were severely injured when a speeding lorry rammed into a Minidor (small) commercial vehicle at Hastings in Kolkata on Saturday morning, police said.

The lorry, while coming from the Vidyasagar (Second Hooghly) Bridge, allegedly violated the speed limit near Hastings crossing and collided with the minidor, carrying five passengers, at a very high speed.

Locals said the lorry driver could not control its speed as it was overloaded with stone chips.

The five injured were rushed to SSKM hospital in the city, where two were declared dead upon arrival while three others were under treatment, the police informed.

Police seized the lorry but the driver is absconding.

"Hunt is on for the accused", an officer of Hastings police station said.
