Zambia picks provisional squad for World Cup qualifier


Lusaka (Zambia), Oct 17 (IANS): Zambia's stand-in head coach, Wedson Nyirenda, has announced a 23-member provisional squad of locals to start preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Cameroon next month.

In a statement posted on the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) website on Sunday, the coach said that the local players will start preparations for the November 12 clash on Sunday, reports Xinhua.

"The residential camp will be held in Lusaka and it will be for a month. Foreign-based players will join us later, but the door remains open for more local players to join us," he said.

Zambia lost 1-2 to Nigeria in the first game of the Group B qualifiers at home on October 9, while Cameroon were held to a 1-1 draw by Algeria.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Jacob Banda (Zesco United), Allan Chibwe (Power Dynamos), Racha Kola (Zanaco)

Defenders: Lawrence Chungu, Billy Mutale (Power Dynamos), Simon Silwamba, Kondwani Mtonga (Zesco United), Adrian Chama (Green Buffaloes), Donashano Malama (Nkana), Ziyo Tembo, Fackson Kapumbu, George Chilufya (Zanaco)

Midfielders: Jack Chirwa (Green Buffaloes), Fwayo Tembo (Power Dynamos), Mwape Mwelwa, Cletus Chama, Misheck Chaila, John Ching' andu (Zesco United), Richard Kasonde, Charles Zulu, Rodrick Kabwe (Zanaco)

Strikers: Justin Shonga (Nkwazi), Jackson Mwanza (Zesco United).
