Mangaluru, Nov 10: With banks opening for public after a day of closure following the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi about scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and introduction of new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes, people thronged banks in large numbers to exchange or deposit their existing notes.

Though the day started on a slow note with a light crowd, the banks witnessed heavy rush as the morning progressed. State Bank of India (SBI) was particularly crowded with people lining up even outside the branch. Other banks saw big crowds filling up inside their branch offices and some queuing up outside.

People were also anxious to see new notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 on Thursday. But only the people who went early got the new notes as they was a shortage of supply.

However, some of the banks that thin crowds. It is also possible that anticipating the rush, people must have decided to visit the banks later.

It is said that a truck had arrived from Chennai on Wednesday with new notes and they were distributed to all banks. It is not clear whether more money has come to city or will come later. No one in the banks knows these things.

In ATMs, the new notes are expected to be dispensed from Friday November 11. The maximum amount one can withdraw has been restricted to Rs 2,000 a day initially. From banks, the an amount of Rs 10,000 can be withdrawn in a day, not exceeding Rs 20,000 a week.

Heavy security has been arranged in and around the banks. More police are seen on the roads also but with a different purpose of maintaining peace during Tipu Jayanti celebrations.

Badly planned project. The nitty gritty of this exercise was not thought off. One of the great planners ( Modi ) is now on a foreign jaunt . amit Shah and Jaitley are not to be seen. This was solely done and uted in view of the UP and Punjab elections where the BJP is going to get routed anyway. The BJP and its industrialist friends must have moved their cash holdings into bank accounts much earlier.

In Mangalore the BJP supporters ( Bunder / Car Street merchants / Mannagudda & Gandhinagar residents ) were taken by utter surprise.

There is probably more black money stacked away in foreign banks, than the total amount of the de-monetised high-value currency.

As long as this issue is not tackled on a war footing, the issue of black money is not going to be solved anytime soon. There are probably hundreds of bigger Mallyas lurking round the corner.

This currency exchange was very badly planned / organised.

There is no point of the exchange when smaller denomination ( Rs 100. 50, 20,10 & 5 ) currency are not available. Shop keepers are unwilling to take this new currency for lack of change.

If we go in systematic manner, the corrupt will get more time to secure their black money.

Let us assume that Modi gave once weeks’ time and after one week, 500 and 1000 currencies will be just piece of paper. Here people will get one weeks’ time to secure their money specially by investing in Gold and there may be many other methods which only these corrupt people know.

By overnight telling, that risk has been evaded. Now tax evading people have only two choices..

    1. Put it in to Bank account and offer themselves for IT scrutiny and penalty (which no corrupt will do)
    2. Burn all the black money

The people of this nation are mature enough to know the importance of this. So they don’t mind two days of hard ship for the benefit of nation.

There may be some brainless RAGA mere for political scores. Which is being ignored by majority of people as they are well aware why this is done.

Dongies cannot do good to any nation and can’t see others doing good to nation.

People, if it has gotten into your heads by now, well and good. If it hasn't, let me explain it to you in the least capacity I have.

Modi's drive to circulate new currency notes is a good one but he should have done it in a systematic method. Not overnight telling people that your money needs to be changed for it to be worthy of its value. I agree, a lot of fake currency may have entered the country but how can he be so sure that its just the fake currency that exists in the black hole ? Apart from fake currency, it is also the unaccounted for money in peoples cupboards that has become worthless today. The money that RBI printed, the money that is within the brackets of nation's worth.

By Modi's dictate, all that money in the cupboards, a certain percentage of nation's worth, will be wiped off, if it will not be converted into new notes within the given time frame. How, a figure within brackets i.e. the worth in peoples cupboards, will be stated in the Balance Sheet ? In XXXXXX ??? The PM and FM need to explain this to the nation !

Because, if they both can't, the nation will be poorer by Rs. XXXXXX/- because its been burned due to demonetisation !

Lydia Maam….50:50 I agree with you…. Yes people should have been given little time in advance to change their currency….. But No….it doesn’t work in Asian Country because people would have argued for more time instead of little…. Moreover….culprits of Black Marketers too will get more days to play their dirty tricks too…. Yes of course there is a lot more inconvenience in lower level….but as usual our people knows very well how to cope with that situation too. Let us wait for few more days for pros and cons of this rule….then we can criticize NaMo if required!!!!

    Your views very much biased.
    Ordinary people need not worry.
Suppose if one had accumulated one lac per year from last 10 years. Still he can go to bank and deposit it. Any problem?

By the I have enough collection of hundred rupees notes for the time being. Enough for 15 days!

    Sri,

Don't be afraid - not one lakh, even if there is 2.5 lakhs with him saved over 10 years, no trouble for him. Because as per IT rule, a person earning 2.5 Lakhs per year is exempted from paying tax.

By-the-way, who keeps 1 Lakh savings at home ? They don't know the bank address, or don't fear theft ?

    Sri.. Agreed. Apologies.

However, who keeps 10 lakhs in cash at home since 10 years ? A farmer bound the money in 'MUDI' ?? He should be in a position to explain this to the Bank Manager while submitting to exchange it.

Well, he may not even be having a bank account else the money would have been in the bank, not inside 'MUDI' !

People, beware, do not fall prey to deposit money somebody is offering, all your deposits are being monitored.

Once your income for the entire year exceeds 2.5 Lakhs, there will be IT officers knocking on your door questioning you how come this year your income exceed the last year's ! Because, your salary is already in record, so much money cannot come from a fountain, obviously !

    (2) Carrying sacks of black money for legalising it when the deadline was issued ending Sept. 2016

Both the above points will convince you that I am not at the top of nor at the bottom of line. Being in the middle and able to understand what comes in the news, I am quite comfortable.

    Dear Lydia Lobo, Kadri,

The Black money was increased because of IT officials. They are corrupt.

THE POLITICIANS, THE LAWYERS AND THE POLICE PEOPLE WILL TAKE 500 AND 1000 RUPEE NOTES BECAUSE THEY KNOW HOW TO CIRCULATE IT.

The affluent's can appoint few poor people to deposit their black currency on a 50-50 basis to deposit in their names.

There are many ways black people will use black ways to encash it.
