Sevilla undaunted despite poor record in France

Seville (Spain), Dec 5 (IANS): Spanish top flight football club Sevilla have previously played away in France in three official matches and lost each time, but were still able to advance to the next stage, thanks to bigger home wins.

Now, the Andalucian team hope to repeat history when they play their final group stage game in the Champions League against Olympique Lyon, reports Efe.

Sevilla visited France for the first time in 2004, when they lost 0-1 against Lille in a UEFA Cup group stage match, but the defeat had no consequences because both teams managed to qualify for the round of 32.

Five months later, Sevilla were defeated 0-1 again by Lille in the first leg of the round of 16, before winning the return home leg 2-0.

During the 2010-11 Europa League, Sevilla were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain in the first and second legs of the group stage, but both teams managed to qualify for the next round.

Currently, Sevilla hold the second position in Group H with 10 points, just one point behind leaders Juventus.

Lyon will host Sevilla on Wednesday.
