Won't allow H1B visa holders to replace US workers: Trump

Washington, Dec 10 (PTI): President-elect Donald Trump has said he would not allow Americans to be replaced by foreign workers, in an apparent reference to cases like that of Disney World and other American companies wherein people hired on H-1B visas, including Indians, displaced US workers.

"We will fight to protect every last American life," Trump told thousands of his supporters in Iowa on Thursday as he referred to the cases of Disney world and other US companies.

"During the campaign I also spent time with American workers who were laid off and forced to train. The foreign workers brought in to replace them. We won't let this happen anymore," Trump vowed amidst cheers and applause from the audience.

"Can you believe that? You get laid off and then they won't give you your severance pay unless you train the people that are replacing you. I mean, that's actually demeaning maybe more than anything else," he said.

Disney World and two outsourcing companies have been slapped with a federal lawsuit by two of its former technology staff, alleging that they conspired to displace American workers with cheaper foreign labour brought to the US on H-1B visas, mostly from India.

The two employees - Leo Perrero and Dena Moore - were among 250 Disney tech workers laid off from their jobs at Walt Disney World in Orlando in January 2015. They have also dragged two IT companies HCL Inc and Cognizent Technologies into this class action lawsuit.

"You know the name of one of the companies that's doing it. I'm going to be nice because we're trying to get that company back. Don't forget much harder when a company announced a year and a half ago - some of these companies, like Carrier, they announced long before I even knew I was going to be running for president," Trump said.

On immigration, Trump reiterated that he will build the wall along the Mexico border. "We will put an end to illegal immigration and stop the drugs from pouring into our country, the drugs are pouring into our country, poisoning our youth and plenty of other people," he said.

"We will stop the drugs from pouring into our country. We will stop the drugs from poisoning our great and beautiful and loving youth. OK? We'll do it," he said, adding that the Trump administration will stop the violence that is "spilling across our border."

America First and American citizens deserve better job than outsiders, just like every country in the world gives priority for their own citizens first right?(For Eg: In India they don't hire tech workers from Bangladesh even if they ready to work at cheaper rate right?) so whatz wrong in banning H1B visas? Good Move.

Trump will act on the visa and it is not a surprise. and it will have negative impact too. but it is not an easy job for Trump because the Indians esp IT folks have shown skills and long worknig hours that the American pappus cannot match . also they are 2 times costilier. which company can afford it overnight? but it is time our software gaints look for diversificaition of countries where they work so that they can minimize the damage.

If some guy here calls the entire software people from india as FEKUs, you can understand his or her sadism and frustration that he count not make it when his fellow class mate is living in US.. LOL

    Rajesh Anna,

As usual you missed the point, your blind BAKHT support only reveals your knowledge on this issue. When Modi announced in Madison Square Garden which is about two miles from Trump residence that he will make India back office of the world, there were many Americans media and leaders expressed their views opposing such situations.

Modi should have been careful and not give Bashanas in their backyard with promising messages impacting local economy.

In general 6 out of 10 people coming over with H1B visa are excellent and d work hard. As in any situation, some have difficulties and these where Americans looks at and feels that their jobs are lost.

There were several law suits and you can read about these cases so that you learn the true story.

Trump views and advisers are taking advantage of such news and only talking about it. We will see if any such promise by Trump is followed up and actions taken/

You are right with a small correction.

American Indians are those NATIVE Indians (known as Red Indians also) who have been living in their respective reservations for years ago before immigrants arrived in 16th century.

Indians who arrived from India in last 100 plus years and have become US citizens over the years are called Naturalized Indians Their children's are jokingly referred as ABCD - American born confused Desi.

Thanks to Andrha politicians, Telugu is the largest beneficiary of recent immigration in last 40 years. Every 3rd H1B visa holder is Telugu. In NJ, CA, and Virginia states, it is expected to have majority of Naturalized Indians from Telugu by year 2025.

    Wrong.
These H1B visa workers from India are paid in India to their Indian accounts, where as a small amount is paid in US Dollars for their expenses.
USA does not get even Income Tax on their whole salary.

    Pl don’t misguide..

As far as I know, H1B people have to be paid full US salary. And they have to pay some huge 20-30% US ta x. They get india salary like peanut when they go to states… it is not an easy job to fool US agencies.

This is totally wrong. Can you tell me which other company hires people on H1B VISA and then pays in the home country? Every company needs to pay a mandated salary in USD for the H1B employees and is thus taxable in US... Which is nearly 30% including federal/state/city taxes and the SSN benefits.
