Udupi, Dec 10: On the occasion of platinum jubilee celebrations of Milagres Cathedral building, Kallianpur, a day of remembrance of the deceased parishioners’ on December 9 was held.

The Holy Eucharistic celebration co-celebrated by Fr Vincent Fernandes parishioner and rector of Minor Seminary, diocese of Mysuru along with Fr Joseph D’Souza Carmalite, parishioner, serving the diocese of Bellary, Fr Anthony Fernandes parishioner, Fr Ronson D’Souza of Holy Cross, parishioner and parish priest of Katpady Church, Fr Stany B Lobo rector of the Cathedral, Fr Herold Mathias and Fr Nelson Furtado of Pilar Fathers, Fr Prakash Anil Castelino and Fr Rolwin Aranha assistant parish priests.

In his homily, Fr Joseph D’Souza pointed out why we should remember the deceased and pray for them. When we pray for the deceased who were close to us, then they will surely pray for us. Where there is love, there is God. A path to a closer union with God and greater love for others who are deceased. We believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In its haste to embrace the concept of immortality of the soul, Jesus paid a royalty for our sins. We should love and serve one another. God loves us. We should repent our sins and convert to a better life.

After mass, Fr Stany B Lobo in his brief announcement explained the celebrations of the platinum jubilee of the church.

A candle light procession to the church cemetery by the assembled followed and prayers were held. Fr Stany B Lobo conducted the prayer service at the cemetery and blessed it. Each stood beside the grave of their departed loved ones.

On Saturday December 10, Day of Religious will be celebrated and Msgr Dr Baptist Menezes, vicar general of the diocese will be the main celebrant of the Eucharist at 4.30 pm.
