Bagalkot: Accident - seven to participate in Madiga convention die en route

Bagalkot, Dec 12: Seven persons, who were going to Hubballi to take part in the caste-based convention of Madigas being held there, died after their vehicle met with an accident. The tragic accident happened near Kulageri Cross in Badami taluk on Sunday December 11.

15 people from Chennabasavanagara in Basavana Bagewadi in Vijayapura district had booked a Trax Cruiser vehicle for attending the said convention from their village. When their vehicle was passing through Kulageri Cross, it hit a truck head-on.

In this gory accident, five persons died on the spot while another died on the way to hospital. One more succumbed to injuries when being treated in the hospital. All the deceased were men in the age group of 25 and 65. The truck driver involved in the accident stands arrested.


State chief minister, Siddaramaiah, who took part in the convention of Madigas, came to know about this accident, and announced ex-gratia payment of one lac rupees to each of the affected families.
