England seamer Anderson ruled out for fifth Test

Chennai, Dec 15 (IANS): England's ace seamer James Anderson has been ruled out of the fifth and final cricket Test against India starting on Friday due to stiffness, captain Alastair Cook said on Thursday.

Anderson has struggled in the series with only four wickets from two matches after coming back from an injury to his left shoulder.

However, England are pleased with the fitness of fellow pacer Stuart Broad, who has been struggling with a foot injury.

"Alastair Cook has confirmed @jimmy9 will miss out in Chennai due to stiffness but @StuartBroad8 is back in contention #INDvENG," England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) reported on Twitter.

"Cook: "Broady is fit & has a chance. He bowled at a local ground yesterday. It's great to have him back." #INDvENG," it added in another tweet.

Anderson, 34, is England's most experienced bowler, having 467 wickets from 122 Tests.

England have already lost the five-match Test series against hosts India, having lost three consecutive matches after the opening draw.
