Kundapur, Dec 23: Minister of fisheries, youth empowerment and sports on Thursday December 22 laid the foundation stone for breakwall works on either sides of the estuary at Gangolli port area.

Speaking on the occasion he said that the project was approved during Congress rule in the center with the efforts of Oscar Fernandes and MLA K Gopala Poojary. “The cost is borne by the union and state governments in the ratio 75:25. However the present union government has fixed the ratio at 50:50. As the state government cannot afford that high an amount, no fisheries' projects will be conducted in the future. I have brought it to the notice of the union minister of agriculture and farmers welfare, Radha Mohan Singh. Fortunately the Gangolli project will be conducted in the earlier proportion,” he said.

MLA K Gopala Poojary who presided over the programme requested the minister to get cabinet approval for the proposed port project in Uppunda Madikal at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore. Fisheries department director H S Veerappa Gowda, joint director Gangapathi Bhat, fisheries development corporation managing director V K Shetty, executive engineer K R Dayanand, taluk panchayat member Raju Devadiga and fishermen’s representatives were present. G Sunder compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.

The minister later set in motion the second stage brakewater works at Koderi Fisheries Port of Byndoor Vidhana Sabha constituency. MLA Gopala Poojary who presided over the programme said that 190 houses are approved in the constituency and tender for the concretization of Koderi fisheries road will be called and the work will start soon. “A Kerosene bunk will also be started here.”

Zilla panchayat member Gauri Devadiga, taluk panchayat member Vijaya Shetty, Jagadish Poojary, Shamala Kunder, Raju Devadiga, fishermen’s leader Madan Kumar, KDP member Raju Poojary, grama panchyat vice president Shekar Kharvi, country boat fishermen association honorary president Navinchandra Uppunda and other officials were present.

The minister also laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of fisheries jetty at Shiroor estuary. He said that the efforts of MLA Gopala Poojary who is responsible for a series of developmental works in the area should not be forgotten. The minister also visited outer harbor works at Maravanthe and asked the officials there to complete the work soon, keeping an eye on the quality of work. MLA Gopala Poojary, former zilla panchayat member Raju Poojary, Madan Kumar and others were present.

The Congress government will not reject applications under 94C – Minister Pramod Madhwaraj. Minister Pramod Madhwaraj assured that those who have submitted applications for title deeds under form 94C need not worry. “Only 3¾ cents could be allotted in the beginning but there is provision for allotting land up to 9 cents now which will be allotted with minimum fine,” he said.

Speaking at a news conference held at Byndoor tahsildar office, he said that more than 440 applications are received and the title deeds will be handed over through the tahsildar soon. He asked the tahsildar not to reject applications but to keep those with issues pending. “Such applications can be taken up in the future when a new law comes into force,” he said.

He said that there is no meaning for the BJP protests with regard to 94C and asked why they did not do the work during their rule.
