Kalaburagi: Karnataka, Maharashtra government buses collide - five perish

Kalaburagi, Dec 24: After two buses belonging to Karnataka and Maharashtra State Road Transport`Corporations got involved in a head-on collision near Yanagur village in Usmanabad taluk near Aland in the district on Friday December 23 morning, five persons lost their lives.

In the accident, which occurred on national highway 9, involving buses coming from opposite directions, five died on the spot. Over 20 suffered serious injuries, and more casualties are likely. The bus of Karnataka government was moving towards the city from Tulzapur in Maharashtra, while the bus belonging to Maharashtra was moving to Ummarga from Pune, when the accident occurred at Tulzapur Cross.

Driver of the North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, Amaraya Jidaga, died on the spot, while the driver of the other bus, as well as passengers, Shivaji Salunke, Vaman Salunke, and Laxman were among the five who breathed their last. The injured were admitted into the government hospital at Ummarga and a case was registered at Ummarga police station.
