Udupi, Feb 2: A major fire broke out in paint shop, located in Sagar Ganga commercial complex, by Karavali by-pass road on National Highway 17, at 8.30 am, on Friday February 1 resulting in loss of property worth several lacs.
Fire was ignited from the matches which the proprietor, Rajinath used to light the lamp placed in the pedestal of his shop, 'Avarna' Friday morning. The sparks of matches believed to have fallen in the open tins of paints, resulting in wild fire. As a result, stock of paints worth more than Rs 7 lac was gutted.
Some nearby shops such as Madhushree General Stores, Aram Shamiana and Star Tailors, located in the same building, were also partially damaged owing to fire.
The fire brigade personnel took over one and half hours to extinguish fire finally.
