Tumakuru, Feb 6: In a tragic incident which occurred in the city on Sunday February 5, a youth who was minutes away from the solemnization of his marriage, collapsed and breathed his last. This heart-rending incident turned the mood at the venue from one of celebration into mourning.

Vasant Kumar (30) from Gauribidanur town in Chikkaballapur district was scheduled to marry a girl from Heggare village in this taluk. Both the boy and the girl were postgraduates and employed in private company. For their marriage, 'Gaviranga Kalyana Mantapa' situated in the outskirts of the city had been booked and decked up for the function. The reception was held on Saturday night at the same venue where friends and close relatives had made merry, spent major of the night by dancing and dining. Video shooting and taking of photos too had been arranged.

The couple was to tie nuptial knot at 10 am on Sunday. As part of the marriage, 'Vara Puja' was performed on Sunday morning. At around 8.30 am, the groom took bath and came out of the bathroom. When he was being readied to be escorted to the stage for further rituals, he suddenly complained of chest pain and fell to the ground. The relatives immediately admitted him into the T H S Hospital here. However, the doctors who examined the youth said he had been brought dead. The news came as a bolt from blue for the bride and the entire gathering at the wedding hall, and teary eyes and loud wails soon rent the air.

The entire entourage of the groom comprising his friends, relatives and acquaintances , who were planning to return home with the newly married couple, went back to Gauribidanur with the mortal remains of the youth.

The incident seemed to drive home once again the spiritual notion that nothing is permanent in this world.

Reminds me of the famous Mahabharata event between Yudhistar and Yaksha

Yaksha: What is the most wonderful thing?
Yudhisthira: The most amazing thing is that even though every day one sees countless living entities dying, he still acts and thinks as if he will live forever.
