Karkala, Feb 21: Talented students are giving up science studies at Pre-University level, in order to pursue professional studies which fetch them high paying jobs in IT industries.  This trend will create shortage of science graduates in educational institutions in the near future, opined Challakere Yerriswamy, competitions coordinator of state science council.

He was speaking at the inaugural of Mangalore University-level science elocution competition which was held at Bhuvanendra College recently.

While expressing his concern on the prospect of science, he said, 'No doubt, IT jobs fetch huge salaries but in reality our talented students become slaves of IT enterprises. Hence, this will lessen contribution to science,' he added.

Prof S Govind Prabhu, retired lecturer, said that science is like a barn of paddy which brings out new innovations and discoveries at all times.

Prof B Padmanabha Gowda, principal of Bhuvanendra College, presided over the programme.  Dinesh Shettigar, principal of Hebri Government Pre-University College and convener of competitions, welcomed the gathering.  Prof Ramesh Bhat, lecturer of Bhuvanendra College, proposed the vote of thanks. Vanishree compered the programme.
