Udupi: Motor bike skid - biker killed, pillion rider injured

Udupi, May 3: In an accident which happened around midnight on Monday May 1, a bike rider was killed while the pillion rider suffered injuries. The accident happened near Shirva bus stand when the tyres of the motor bike suddenly skidded.

The victim of this accident was Prasanna Nayak (29), a resident of Kallottu, Shirva. Prashant Devadiga (27), who was riding the pillion, was injured. The two were travelling towards Shirva from Shamboor to have dinner when the vehicle fell on the road after its wheels skidded. The rider of the bike sustained serious injuries to his head. People who were watching a Yakshagana performance nearby rushed to the help of the two youngsters and admitted them into the government hospital in the town. In the afternoon, they were taken to KMC Hospital Manipal as their condition remained critical.

The bike rider breathed his last on Tuesday afternoon at the hospital, while the pillion rider is recovering. It is said that both of them worked for Mescom's Pamboor station on contract basis. Prasanna, it is said, was also preparing to leave for a foreign country where he had bright chances of bagging a job soon.
