Surat businessman grilled for links with ‘ISI agents’

Mumbai, Jun 5 (TOI): A Surat-based imported aluminium scrap trader is being questioned by the Gujarat ATS for his alleged links with two suspected ISI agents, Javed Navivala and Altaf Qureshi, who were recently arrested from south Mumbai. ATS officials said they had found that the Surat businessman had transferred Rs 3.5 lakh to the bank account of Qureshi in December 2016, but he claimed that he had transferred funds to Qureshi's account to give it to a relative who lives in Mumbai.

"Even after intense questioning, the suspect maintains that he is not linked to any espionage activity, and it is just a coincidence that he knows Qureshi," said an ATS official.

Gujarat ATS, along with sleuths from UP ATS, are questioning the suspect. According to sources, his cellphone number was in the call details of the two alleged ISI agents.
