Udupi: No ambulance - Dead body of poor police constable transported in bus

Daijiworld Media Network-Udupi (RJP)

Udupi, Jun 18: The dead body of a police constable was transported in a police bus on Saturday, June 17 from Udupi to distant Bagalkote. The reason cited was the unavailability of ambulance. The news has attracted widespread criticism in social media.

Mahantha Basappa (37) is the deceased person.

Basappa was working as police constable at KSRP training centre in Haveri. He was brought to Manipal a week back for treatment of kidney ailment. After he died on Friday, June 16 without responding to treatment, it was decided to take the body to his native place in Bagalkote for funeral. As the government ambulance was not available, the body was kept in the mortuary.

When no ambulance could be arranged for long, ultimately it was decided to transport the body in a KSRP bus. The photos of loading the body into the bus are being circulated in WhatsApp.

Udupi police have denied that they arranged the bus. Some police sources here blamed Mangaluru police responsible for this act. But now it is learned that KSRP Mangaluru arranged the bus.

It is said that Basappa came from a poor family and hence ambulance was not provided for the transportation of his dead body.

But Mangaluru KSRP has denied the allegation. Janardhan, Commandant from from Mangaluru KSRP, said that as Bagalkote is very far and it would take an ambulance two days to return, the bus was arranged. He said ambulance would not carry the family of the deceased. "The arrangement was made on humanitarian grounds. There was no need to criticize us for this. A government ambulance cannot remain away for two days as it is needed here for emergency purposes." he added.

"A government ambulance cannot remain away for two days as it is needed here for emergency purposes." - What do you mean by this. You mean to say govt has only one Ambulance. You could have been arranged a private ambulance & govt can pay for that right. It clearly says that he is poor & cannot afford to pay for ambulance, hence it was not arranged.

Actueally I find bus is acceptable than ambulence.Since ambulence doesnt allow to carry other persons ,bus was better, and long journey could be made better with bus.May the soul of deceased rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathys to the family.sad he could not be saved .Probably was brought late?Poor people have hardly any chance to come to better therapy.Doesnt Govt pay for their police ?or dont they have a sick insurance paid by govt?hard.

1.6 crore rupees medical bills of Ambareesh has been cleared by state government. But the same govt has no money to provide the best possible facilities for poor people in Govt hospitals. Ambulance should have been arranged to transport the body, instead of transporting in bus.

Why making an issue. By bus, ambulance or Helicopter destination is the same.
Unlike previous incident where someone carried the sick dead body for few miles on his shoulders.

when it came to ban all small vehicles for being used as ambulance, there were more than thousand ambulances, how come suddenly all became busy in 1 day, is there is drought happened in udupi or mangalore?

its accepted that might be this poor police constable's family not having enough money, so why commandant didn't help them in terms of money on humanitarian ground instead of arranging bus, so that this poor family can afford ambulance

Its OK if department arrange police bus to transport dead bpdy .

In India there is NP separate vehicle to transport dead body. One ambulance using tp take sick, injured and dead. Why people want to make issue? Hias family members Aldo there with body. How this much people can go in ambulance? For a body you can't send ambulance 24 hrs outside the district without proper 2 drivers. We will give preference to only political people not a police who guarding society and leaving his family faraway. Its called India. As a RX policeman it's my own experience.

Siddu want to control costs in private hospitals and clinics, instead of if he provide proper facility in govt hospital, automatically govt hospital bill will come down. he used air ambulance to bring body from belgium, but here people dont have normal ambulance to take their family members body.

In this case people should depends on private hospitals, and if siddu controls their cost it will lead to corruption.

First time in 70 year udupi became like this
