Bantwal, Aug 3: In an incident which happened at Kodimajalu in Narikombu village in the taluk on Wednesday August 2, seven quintals of rice meant for distribution among ration card holders, which was being transported for selling in black market, was stopped by the villagers. Tahsildar and executive magistrate of the taluk, Purandar Hegde, impounded this rice. The incident which has happened in the home constituency of food and civil supplies department minister has surprised many.

Purandar Hegde stated that this rice was sold through a ration society. It was meant to be taken to a private rice mill where the concerned had planned to sell it in black market after polishing it.

As many as 14 bags of rice weighing 50 kg each were found unaccompanied by bills. Food inspector, Srinivas, said that the rice was seized as per information passed on by the people and the case after inquest, was handed over to the town station here. The vehicle was also seized. Case has also been filed in the court of the assistant commissioner.

In addition to tahsildar, food inspector, Srinivas, village accountant, Nagaraj, and taluk office staff were involved in the operation. Station house officer of town police station, Rakshit Gowda, is conducting investigation.
